We had a great chabat, actually every day has been great since we arrived. The beach is absolutely faboulous, crowded, but not like we're used to on the French riviera. The boys stayed in the water for almost 4 hours, it's really very warm. I'm curious to know what the lifeguards are saying, the're talking non-stop in their microphone, sometimes screaming, I can hear words like children, outside, staright, woman etc. Probably the try to control the situation and even more probably- the majority doesn't listen...
Today we will try to find out how to register the boys to the summer oulpan, I think it starts tomorrow and it would be useful for them to participate. Our Oulpan starts only in September, until then we try to use the words we know- or the words we think we know. Friday morning I went to the local supermarket asking the lady at the butcher's to give me a nose ( af) instead of a chicken (of).

At least you're not afraid of trying! This is the most important thing when learning a new language. Use the words you know and talk as much as possible, in shops, with neighbours, with other parents in the park an dso on. I'm sure you'll learn really fast. You have the right attitude!

Watch tv too. It helps a great deal.

After 3 summers here I still don't understand what the lifeguards says. So, I'm doing like everyone else, ignoring them!

Just keep on trying, people might laugh when you say stupid things but they will laugh with you and not at you!

My sister-in-law once went into the butcher in Israel and asked for a roast. It was almost Rosh Hashana, and so he brought out a "rosh", a whole head of something or another. Not what she had in mind.

Good luck.

Well done for trying. My grandmother moved to Brasil in late 40s. She still remembers going into a store asking for kisses, canned and preferrably foreign! (kyssar pa burk, helst utlänska)(She was going to buy, fish, I think). The Brasil guys in the store told her, they only had fresh Brasil ones. Poor grandmother after getting back home and asking her husband what on earth they were rolling on the floor laughing at and realized what she had asked for, she didn't have the courage to go back for several months! :)

The lifeguards are telling you to stay within the designated areas and to move to where they can see you. This is extremely important. The water has been very rough over the past few days and there have been 5 drownings over this past weekend, in Tel-Aviv, Netanya and Haifa. Please don't ignore the lifeguards, stay where they can see you. I was at the beach at Tel-Aviv today and the lifeguards were screaming alot, I assume because they were very nervous with the rough surf.

so girls, I see I am not alone!! I guess it's not the last time I will make mistakes but as you all say, that's learning.
Baila, I saw on tv that 5 people drowned, I am watching my children all the time and personally I'm afraid of mother nature, the sea is very powerful and I never go far.
